Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ´spiritual energy´ or ´universal lifeforce energy´ and It is believed that the technique was first used by Tibetian Monks and re-discovered in the 1800´s by Mikao Usui (1865-1926).
Usui´s system of healing is a safe, gentle non-intrusive healing technique where Reiki ‘spiritual energy’  flows through a person´s hands, which are placed and normally held still in specific positions on the head and body either on the person themselves, or on others..

There is no pressure, manipulation or massage, and as the energy flows into the recipient it helps to balance, heal and harmonise all aspects of the person – body, mind, emotions and spirit.  However the Usui Reiki Ryoho (Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method) is more than just a form of holistic therapy, as one of its fundamental purposes is to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth.
In the 1930´s a Japanese-American lady, Hawayo Takata introduced Reiki to America and the West. Mrs Takata went to Japan to receive medical treatment for a tumour and was awaiting an operation for it´s removal, but instead she visited Dr. Hayashi´s clinic in Tokyo (a student of Usui), receiving daily Reiki treatments until the tumour completely disappeared. She stayed with Dr. Hayashi for one year, learning reiki herself, then returned to Hawaii and opened a Reiki clinic. Dr. Hayashi and his family visited her, and in 1938, Mrs Takata undertook further studies with Dr. Hayashi so that she could teach others.

What people experience when they are treated:-

  • Relaxation, sometimes very deep relaxation
  • Heat from the practitioner´s hand, which sometimes seems amazingly hot to the recipient
  • Seeing colours

After a Reiki treatment you will feel calmer, content, less stressed and serene.
